i am asked by almost every wedding photography client who comes through my door to recommend a wedding videographer and every time i think to myself, ‘you don’t want a “videographer”. you want a cinematographer.’ what’s the difference? plenty! when i hear the word videographer, i think ‘tired, uninspired, lazy, just there for the pay check.’ a true cinematographer on the other hand takes the time to produce oscar quality work; something you can’t get anywhere else. many cinematographers, at least those who are worth their weight in gold, scout locations, storyboard shots, seeing the shots no one else would take the time to see and produce wedding films that capture the beauty, the energy and the emotions of a wedding day. in saying that, i’ve created this post as a one stop view of the cinematographers i would want to create a film of my wedding day. my personal favorite is americana cinema.
first up – americana cinema based in los angeles.
Coco + James // Short film from Americana Cinema on Vimeo.
second – still motion based in toronto.
and finally – i do films based in chicago.

i was delighted when richele and bernie, josh’s parents, called me a few months ago asking if i would photograph their son josh’s bar mitzvah celebration and create a photo-booth. when i met with josh, he was very clear on what he wanted the background of the photo-booth to be; a hollywood inspiration done in graffiti. i was so excited because …continue reading

working with karen and will has been such a pleasure. you may remember their engagement session shot in washington, d.c., where they live and work on the front-lines of american politics; helping to change the world for the better. their love for each other is so apparent, as is their love for their families and friends, for life, for art, for dancing. they came back their native to chicago to celebrate their marriage with family and friends in a beautiful church and and a beautiful reception site – the chicago symphony center. such a blast to photograph! i love my job!

in 2006 i proposed to the city of chicago’s department of cultural affairs to take 10,000 portraits of the citizens and visitors of chicago. with a go ahead to begin the photography, the chicago street studio project was born. the intention of chicago street studio project was to create an unprecedented art installation in the state st. + grand ave. red-line subway station, firing the portraits into structural tile and renovating the platform walls with them. it was to be a lasting memorial to the enduring love and passion of human beings, which would move and inspire people for generations to come. …continue reading

when brittany and matthew mentioned they wanted a photo-booth and that they were planning a 30′s era theme for their wedding, it made me recall being at their house for drink before that and seeing certain styling in their house that reminded me of art nouveau. i’ve always been a fan of that style of art, architecture, etc and through research found alphonse mucha’s work. i knew that my dear friend miodrag (mekey) guberinic was the perfect person to collaborate on the concept and paint the mucha photo-booth. nine long days of labor later, we had the photo-booth complete. the following images are just a sample of what it takes to build a custom designed photo-booth. …continue reading
